What is the Reading Buddies program?
Help your child practice reading skills one-on-one with our teen volunteers through Zoom. This program is designed to help children in kindergarten through third grade increase their vocabulary, practice social skills, and build reading confidence. Teens and children are paired together for reading aloud virtually. Paired reading buddies will be supervised by library staff in Zoom breakout rooms.
Who can participate?
This program is for children in Grades K-3 & teen volunteers in grades 7-12.
When is it? This is a four-week program that takes place on Wednesday, July 7, 14, 21, & 28, 4 PM. Participants are expected to attend each session.
What will my child be reading? Your librarians will select age-appropriate eBooks that will be screen shared by our teen volunteers during each session. By using screen shared eBooks, the teen volunteers can follow along as the child reads aloud. This would be too difficult if the child was reading from print book.
