Piscataway Public Library present “Mirrors and Windows: Literary Arts and Self Reflection for Teens”, a series of programs exploring literature and the literary arts, the fine arts, and self expression.
Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders through a grant award from Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.

Wreck This Journal: June 18th 1-2 pm: Kick off Summer Reading and our “Mirrors and Windows” literary and fine arts series by participating in “Wreck This Journal,” inspired by the book by Keri Smith!
Guided Painting: Multimedia Poetry: June 24th 2-3 pm: Students will choose lines of poetry, quotes, music lyrics, and/or powerful words and illustrate them on a canvas using paint and other mixed media. Guest Artist Lynn Schwartz will lead this session.
Humor Writing 1: July 7th, 2 pm: Why do we share humor and laughter? Is it just for fun, or is it a basic survival instinct? Join us as we explore the uses of humor and laughter, create a humor journal and learn how to find the funny in life and how to incorporate it into your writing.
Crochet Bookmark 1: July 15th 3-4 pm: Crochet your very own bookmark! Piscataway Public Library staff member Merry will guide you through some simple stitches so you can save your page in style.
Comic Creation: July 19-23, 4-5 pm: Cartoonist Greg Lear will lead a five-part series on creating your own comics! Learn the basics and then create your own finished comic.
Guided Painting: Book Birches: July 27th 2-3 pm: Guest Artist Lynn Schwartz will talk us through creating our own birch tree paintings with a literary twist- the trees are made of recycled book pages!
August/September Programs
Book-to-Art Club: Speak the Graphic Novel: August 3rd 12-1 pm: Join the Teen Services Department staff for our first Book to Art Club!! Everyone will read Speak: The Graphic Novel by Laurie Halse Anderson (copies provided by the Library) and create art inspired by the book.
Book Cover Redesign: August 10th, 11 am: In this literature-meets-art program with guest artist Matt Mahoney, we will look at some book covers of famous YA books! Think about the cover of your favorite book, and use provided supplies to redesign it!
Recycled Book Rehaul: August 18th 1-2 pm: What can you do with a recycled book?! Let your creativity fly as we upcycle recycled books into all sorts of art creations!
Intro to Creative Writing: August 21st and 28th, 1-3 pm: Join us for a two-part workshop with writer Maisy Card! Card will go over the foundations of creative writing, and then you will write your own pieces!
Hideaway Book: September 2nd, 11 am: Turn a book into a secret hiding spot! Guest artist Matt Mahoney will teach you how to give an old book new life by making it into a hideaway book.
