Adult Services Librarian, Part-Time

Description: 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated candidate to fill a permanent, part-time Adult Services Librarian position of 12-18 hours per week. This position is responsible for public service to all ages at our busy reference desks at the Kennedy and Westergard Branches, and may also include collection development and programming responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Exceptional customer service in-person, by phone and via text message at the information and reference desks
  • Computer, printer, and technology-based troubleshooting
  • Participating in collection development for the Adult Services collections, including weeding outdated materials and ordering new materials
  • Collaborating with other Adult Services Librarians to administer programs and services, such as participation in the areas of the Local History Room and the “Make it Yourself” Makerspace.

Qualifications:

  • An ALA accredited MLS (or equivalent) and NJ Public Librarian Certificate are preferred. Consideration will be given to currently enrolled MLS students.
  • Ability to assist patrons with technology questions including Microsoft Office, Internet searches, and library databases such as EBSCO, and to troubleshoot basic computer problems
  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously and effectively with library patrons and staff
  • Continuing education to update professional skills via workshops and online webinars
  • Active participation in professional library associations is encouraged

Schedule:

Weekly average of 12-18 hours per week. Schedule will include evening, afternoon and rotating weekend hours. Applicant must be able to work at both Kennedy and Westergard Libraries. This position will have a set schedule, but the ability to be flexible is very important.

Compensation:

This is a part-time position, with a minimum starting salary of $33.09 per hour with MLS and NJ Certification; $27.86 per hour for students currently enrolled in an MLS program.

Teen Services Librarian, Part-Time, Westergard Branch

Description: 

The successful candidate will work with the Teen Services department to help staff and program the dynamic teen spaces at our two locations. The position includes all-ages reference service, and may also include some independent collection development and programming.

Responsibilities:

    null
  • Assisting two Teen Services Librarians with programming and collection development
  • Prioritizing service to patrons in the teen spaces
  • Building relationships with teenage patrons
  • Exceptional customer service to all patrons
  • Information, reference, and readers advisory services
  • Computer troubleshooting
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

An ALA accredited MLS (or equivalent) and NJ Public Librarian Certificate are preferred. Consideration will be given to currently enrolled MLS students or to those with demonstrated experience with teens and/or public library service.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for working with young people in grades 6-12, exceptional customer service, a strong knowledge of current computer technology, and the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
