New Jersey Makers Day & Local Makers Market Success

On Saturday, March 25, we celebrated our 3rd Annual New Jersey Makers Day along with 300 other participating sites! We offered a full day of events at Kennedy, which included vendors like Kaleidoscope Enrichment, IEEE, Blacksmith from ABC's Battlebots, Girl Scouts, and Safety Third Racing (we raced drones outside . . . up to 80 mph!), as well as activities like the button maker, coding, marble run and much more. And finally, we rounded out the celebration on Sunday, March 26, with a Local Makers Market featuring the handmade creations of Piscataway residents. This event supported local small businesses and provided free networking and selling opportunities for these local makers.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, than by participating in a community wide clean up day. Join with members of the Piscataway community to reduce litter, minimize waste, and beautify and improve the landscape to help to make our community a better place to live, work and play.

To register, click here and return your completed registration sheet to the Clerks Office.

The Piscataway Public Library and Piscataway Rotary Club invites you to a Memorial Day Family Event on Monday, May 29, 2017 at Quibbletown Park immediately following the parade.

Learn about our community’s current and past Veterans, support current members of the Armed Forces, and participate in events fun for the whole family.

This event will be free to attend. Attractions include storytimes for children, face painting, music, thank-a-veteran letter station, team challenges for teens, crafts, games, and food!

Libraries Transform

April 9-15, 2017 is National Library Week.

We couldn't do what we do without our wonderful patrons. Thank you for helping us transform our library.

"First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate." - http://www.ala.org/conferencesevents/celebrationweeks/natlibraryweek

Congratulations to one of our own!

Doug Baldwin, Emerging Technologies Librarian and a very familiar face around the library, was just named one of Library Journal's 2017 Movers & Shakers

A well deserved congratulations goes out to Doug for being an emerging leader in the library world. Library Journal's Movers & Shakers "profiles up-and-coming individuals from around the world who are innovative, creative, and making a difference" . We are lucky to have Doug help move our library ahead and we hope you will join us in congratulating Doug the next time you see him. If you can't find him at the Information Desk he is most likely back in our MiY Makerspace innovating and creating.

Ricardo to the rescue!

If you have not stopped by Kennedy to help piece together our community puzzle, this is something you will want to do soon. We all know the frustration of putting together a 300 piece puzzle to only find out you are missing 1 piece! This was the case for our puzzle here at Piscataway and we want to thank Ricardo, a local artist and regular of the library, for stepping in and painting an identicle puzzle piece to replace the missing one. Thank you Ricardo!
