The Piscataway Public Library has been selected as a SUPER Affiliate for Make Magazine's Maker Camp on Google+.  The Maker Camp runs for six weeks for students between 12 and 18 years old, and will include projects, virtual field trips, and talks from accomplished makers.  The weekly topics are: Makers in Motion, Create the Future, Fun & Games, Art & Design, DiY Music, and Make: Believe.  In week one, attendees will make a Two Liter Motor Boat and a Rocket-propelled Toy Car.  All programs begin at 2p.m., will last about an hour to an hour and a half and require registration with Kennedy Library's Information Desk: 732-463-1633 ext. 6.  More information is available at: http://www.piscatawaylibrary.org/content/miy-summer-make

Make: magazine is the leading publication for makers.  "MAKE brings the do-it-yourself mindset to all the technology in your life. MAKE is loaded with exciting projects that help you make the most of your technology at home and away from home."  (http://makezine.com)

With the opening of the MiY: make it yourself project in January 2013, the Piscataway Public Library was the first library in New Jersey to have a makerspace.  Over 250 people attended the opening, and many more have enjoyed MiY programs since. The library recently won the New Jersey State Library's Innovation Award for its MiY project. The MiY project includes 3D design and printing, sewing, robotics, music creation, and electronics. The library has always been a place to learn and create, and now with the burgeoning maker culture and the focus on STEM in education, the library can continue and expand in this role.
