With the opening of the MiY: make it yourself project in January 2013, the Piscataway Public Library was the first library in New Jersey to have a makerspace. Over 250 people attended the opening, and many more have enjoyed MiY programs since. The library recently won the New Jersey State Library's Innovation Award for its MiY project. The MiY project includes 3D design and printing, sewing, robotics, music creation, and electronics. The library has always been a place to learn and create, and now with the burgeoning maker culture and the focus on STEM in education, the library can continue and expand in this role.
Piscataway Public Library is a municipal two-branch library system in central New Jersey that serves a dynamic and ethnically diverse population of over 55,000. http://piscatawaylibrary.org
